The Mine Baseball Story

Q: Give us a little background on the Mine Baseball story, what you do, where you started, what makes you different and how you got to where you are today.

My father started a woodworking business where he represents some of the largest woodworking companies in the world. And about 20 years ago, one of those companies (based in Italy) came to him and said, do you want to get into baseball bats? And so in 2020 we launched Mine Baseball as it is today. 

Our entire focus is on trying to make the best wood bat possible. We have grown tremendously since then. We're the fastest growing wood bat company in the USA. 

Q: What challenges have you faced, growing the business to a market leading position?

We sell primarily through Shopify, Meta has their own Facebook shops, drop shipping other companies' websites. We sell through Etsy, Google Shop, and Amazon.

As we've continued to grow, you always have too much of the wrong product or not enough of the right product.

Q: How did you overcome the challenges?

We were looking at a lot of different ways to solve this. We found a great solution that plugged into all of our software needs, and e-commerce platforms. Katana - Inventory management software. And they recommended Shiptheory.

The big thing with Katana was our inventory management. We can adjust our stock or inventory quickly through Katana. It automatically updates our system. Katana pulls information from Shopify and sends it over to Shiptheory, which automatically determines what account it goes to and the shipping label. It works seamlessly.  

Q: How does your sales cycle work and how is Shipping and inventory impacted?

About half of our sales come in a three month period from May through July. So if we don't have the correct amount of products leading into that period, we miss out on a lot of sales that we're not going to make up later in the year. We needed a platform that could not just provide us good reorder points, but also allow us to adjust seasonal forecasting when we needed them. If you're using Shopify, Tiktok Shop, Amazon, you're having to manage your inventory in a bunch of different places. Katana allowed us to consolidate that all into one platform.

We know what the inventory is at the central hub and it pushes it out to these other locations. We brought Katana and Shiptheory in at the exact same time to help us evolve into the next level that we're going to be at.

They have really helped us maximize the product that we have here and not be sitting on a lot of dead inventory.
